Former BMCC Baseball Player Signs Professional Contract

A former Blue Mountain Community College baseball standout has signed a contract to play ball professionally.

Matt Dallas will now play for the River City Rascals (O’Fallon, Mo.) of the Frontier League. Dallas, a pitcher originally from Boise, Idaho, played for the Timberwolves in the 2013 and 2014 seasons, and served as a volunteer coach in 2015.

For the past two seasons, he was a relief pitcher for the University of Minnesota Crookston, where he helped the Golden Eagles to back-to-back appearances in the NSIC Baseball Tournament. Dallas spent this summer playing in the Jayhawk Baseball League for the Derby Twins in Derby, Kan. Dallas, where he posted a 1-1 mark with a 3.72 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched, as well as earned five saves as a relief pitcher for the Twins.

“Matt has a passion for baseball that really stands out,” said BMCC Head Baseball Coach Brad Baker. “Matt was well-respected by his coaches, teammates, and staff at Blue Mountain. I’m very proud of Matt for the hard work and dedication he put into the game of baseball while at BMCC. Those qualities have helped him get to this point to have this great opportunity.”

The Frontier League is an independent, professional baseball organization originally formed in 1993. It is the oldest currently running independent league. It is not affiliated with Major League Baseball but has sent 24 players to the majors in its 25-year history as a league. The River City Rascals have won two league championships and five division championships in the Frontier League, narrowly missing out on their sixth in 2016.
